2008 Silver Philharmonics and newbie question
Started with stacking of gold and silver but I am wondering and decided to ask here for some guide.
I have access to 2008 Silver 1oz Philharmonics in any quantity I want ( I can buy those in a bank that is couple of miles from me ) but since I am new to this and I like coins I want to stack some other silver coins which are more expensive here in Europe. Now my dillema is this. Should I stick with Philharmonics and buy all 2008 I can since this is the first year for those and maybe buy other coins later ( or even exchange for Phils ). Should I expect higher value of 2008 Philharmonics in coming years ( Like Koala 2007 is priced higher zthan 2008 ) ? |
Re: 2008 Silver Philharmonics and newbie question
It really depends if you are getting the phils for a good price or not. How much over spot price are you paying?
I would go for the cheapest government issued bullion you can get. Phils are a good choice. As far as value goes, it really comes down to how many they make in 2008 versus 2009 and after. If the number is smaller in 2008 they will be more valuable and the "rookie year" would be desirable. Gov't sealed boxes are nice to have. Also, minting errors make for a more valuable coin.If you are looking for more valuable coins I would try to collect OLD coins and not modern bullion. When buying bullion stick to the cheapest available... |
Re: 2008 Silver Philharmonics and newbie question
Paying quite over spot as with every coin you can buy here in Europe. Over spot price for Philharmonics is around $4. For other silver coins over spot price is even higher !
They mint Philharmonics as per demand so no fixed amount. But considering it is getting popular and that coins are available from February 1st 2008 I would think less coins are going to be minted this year than in the future. |
Re: 2008 Silver Philharmonics and newbie question
when they came out in february the premium was quite high....then as time went onward the premiium dropped to be one of the lowest and now the premium is pretty equal with maple leaf coins.

The core of my silver coins are these: Silver Eagles Mexican Libertads Maple Leafs Philharmonics Engelhard Prospectors I buy whichever one I can find the best deal on at the time. And as naccarato is fond of saying, "Buy 10 oz. bars!" |

I thought they have a $3 premium over spot...when did silver go below $10? |

Like I said before, when buying bullion always go for the cheapest gov't issued coins available at that moment. Prospectors are also a good coin to buy if the price is right. |

I would go to official Austrian Mint shop. They have one in Vienna and one in Innsbruck. http://www.austrian-mint.com/shop_lokale?l=en |

good man.
thank you very much. |
Re: 2008 Silver Philharmonics and newbie question
Ah just saw you are going there on Saturday :( It seems Austrian Mint shops are closed during the weekend.
Check in some bank if those are opened on Saturdays. Maybe we have some austrian guys here. Of small, local coin shops I am unaware of :( |
